Community Development & Engagement Worker

As a Podsmead resident I have always appreciated the work of the Big Local. The big projects that they have been responsible for such as the Milton Avenue Green Space and the wonderful Play Park in Tuffley Park.

I have worked with people throughout my career and I am excited and enthusiastic about my new role as Community Development & Engagement Worker. Along with my colleague Kay I will be visiting every address in Podsmead over the next few months. We want to talk to as many residents, groups and businesses as we can.

We want to encourage more people in Podsmead to get involved in our community by volunteering, being active in how we shape the future of Podsmead, suggesting and voting for projects big and small to make Podsmead a better place for everyone

I have been volunteering with Podsmead Big Local for over 2 years, mainly helping with DIY and any small jobs that I can do. It has been a labour of love (well most of the time), if you feel that you can help other residents or start a group come and talk to us at the HUB on Scott Avenue. Nothing better than a chat over a hot drink.

We want people to suggest projects and more importantly register on the PBL website to vote for the active projects. Past projects have included funding regular Family Discos, Black History Month at the Melting Pot Café together with larger projects such as the Podsmead play area in Tuffley Park (Wingate’s) and the Milton Avenue Public Green Space in conjunction with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
